League One strugglers Shrewsbury Town are close to appointing Grimsby Town boss Paul Hurst as their new manager, report BBC Radio Shropshire.
It is understood the Shrews have made an official approach for the 42-year-old and talks are ongoing on Friday.
Hurst has been with the Mariners since 2011 and led them back to the Football League via the play-offs last season.
The Shrews have been without a manager since Micky Mellon left on 7 October to take over at National League Tranmere.
Having been promoted from League Two under Mellon in May 2015, they narrowly stayed up last season, but currently lie bottom of the third tier.
Shrewsbury chief executive Brian Caldwell has previously said the club could have a new manager in place before Saturday’s visit of Northampton Town.
