Cardiff City: Neil Warnock to be named manager after Paul Trollope sacking

Cardiff City are set to name Neil Warnock as manager following Paul Trollope’s sacking.

Trollope was dismissed on Tuesday after less than five months in charge.

Former Sheffield United boss Warnock, 67, is expected to be appointed before Cardiff host Bristol City in the Championship on Friday, 14 October.

Warnock helped Rotherham avoid relegation from the Championship last season during three months in charge, but turned down the chance to stay.

Championship side Cardiff would be Warnock’s 14th managerial appointment.

He spent eight seasons in charge of Sheffield United, and has twice managed Crystal Palace and QPR.

Former Cardiff defender Danny Gabbidon, who played under Warnock at QPR, has said he “could be a nice fit to come in and get the team up and running quickly”.

He added: “He’s a very good man-manager. He’s good at working on a tight budget and getting the right players in.

“He’s also proven in that division to get the best out of teams and get them out of that division.”

Cardiff are second bottom of the table after winning only two of their opening 11 games.

Trollope’s assistant, Lennie Lawrence, and conditioning coach Ryland Morgan have also left the club.
