Tottenham forward Clinton Njie feels this week’s Europa League opponents Monaco will have extra motivation from playing an English side.

Spurs travel to the French Ligue 1 side for their Group J match on Thursday.

“I think all the teams from the French league, whenever they play teams from England, are motivated and I know we are going to have a difficult game,” said Cameroon international Njie.

Spurs are without

injured South Korea forward Son Heung-min (foot).

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are top of Group J after the first round of matches, following a 3-1 home win against Azerbaijani champions Qarabag.

Monaco, who drew 1-1 at Belgian side Anderlecht in their opening game, finished third in Ligue 1 last season.

But they are currently ninth after surrendering the lead three times to draw 3-3 at Guingamp on Sunday.

“Monaco always defend very well and I think they’re going to attack, so we know it’s going to be a difficult one,” added 22-year-old Njie, who

moved to White Hart Lane from Lyon in the summer.

“They will be at 100% because they are playing against Tottenham, but we are going to be ready physically and mentally.

“Monaco are a good team but I think if we go there determined to win we can be victorious.”
